Free Radicals and Anti-oxidants

Free Radicals and Anti-oxidants

Free radicals:

Our body generates hundreds of substances called “free radicals” when converting food to energy. Other free radicals are extracted from food or breathed in from the air, and some are generated by the sunlight’s action on the skin and eyes.

Once formed, these toxic compounds can start a chain reaction like dominoes. Cells may function poorly or die. Resulting oxidative stress is associated with more than 200 diseases.

Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells, causing illness and aging. As the body ages, it loses its ability to fight the effects of free radicals. The result is more free radicals, more oxidative stress, and more damage to cells, which leads to degenerative processes, as well as “normal” aging.

Antioxidants:

Antioxidants are molecules which can safely interact with free radicals and terminate the chain reaction before vital molecules are damaged. Our body cannot manufacture these antioxidants, so they must be supplied in our diet. Our bodies need to maintain a certain balance between free radicals and antioxidants.

Prevention of free radicals:

Although free radicals are produced naturally in the body, lifestyle factors can accelerate their production. So we can prevent this by staying away from:

  • exposure to toxic chemicals, such as pesticides and air pollution
  • smoking
  • alcohol
  • fried foods

Natural Treatments:

Blueberry is an excellent source of antioxidants. It contains more antioxidant than most other fruits and vegetables especially when compared to other types of berries.

Bill Natural Sources® BlueBuildTM contains an abundant source of antioxidants from Canadian blueberries, namely: anthocyanins. Anthocyanin is considered an excellent element to neutralize free radicals and maintains good health. Our manufacturing process ensures the antioxidant properties of blueberries are protected to ensure you get the most amount of antioxidants in each one of our capsules.
